The Honorable Arlander Keys Scholarship Recipients

The following is a brief summary of our past Keys Scholarship Recipients. They were chosen based on a rigorous set of selection criteria including demonstrated professionalism, ethics and civility in the profession, academic achievement, leadership, and communication skills.

Emmalyse Daniels

Emmalyse Daniels is the 2025-2026 Honorable Arlander Keys Scholarship recipient. Ms. Daniels attended Howard University School of Law, graduating in May 2026. At Howard University, Ms. Daniels participated in the Appellate Project Mentorship Program and was a Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Scholar and a Henry Ramsey Dean’s Fellow, among other accomplishments. Prior to law school, Ms. Daniels earned a bachelor of arts in psychology and philosophy with a minor in data science from the University of Notre Dame, attending as a QuestBridge National College Match Scholar and Balfour-Hesburgh Leadership Scholar. Her IP experience includes artificial intelligence and machine learning matters at Apple, Inc., a copyright fellowship with Oppenheim + Zebrak LLP, and an internship under the Hon. John P. Howard III at the D.C. Court of Appeals. Ms. Daniels will begin her legal career as an Associate at Morrison Foerster LLP, where she will focus her practice on Technology Transactions.

2024 Perry Jackson

Perry Jackson is the 2024 Honorable Arlander Keys Scholarship recipient. Mr. Jackson earned a bachelor of arts in political science from Clemson University before attending Howard University School of Law, graduating in May 2025. At Howard Law, Mr. Jackson served as president of the Fashion Law Society and was part of a coalition at Howard University School of Law with other organizations, such as the Sports and Entertainment Law Society, that works to bring students to the field of Intellectual Property Law. Recognizing the unique nature of Howard’s social justice curriculum, Mr. Jackson incorporated social justice and community work into the IP curriculum for his IP certificate. Mr. Jackson is currently an associate at ArentFox Schiff in Washington D.C.

2023 Bryan Botani

Bryan Botani is the 2023 Honorable Arlander Keys Scholarship recipient. Mr. Botani earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Government from the University of Houston before attending the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University. While in law school, he served as President of the Intellectual Property Law Society, a member of the Sports and Entertainment Law Society and of the Muslim Law Student Association, and a contracts law tutor. Mr. Botani honed his skills for his aspiring intellectual-property legal career by securing a coveted position with Apple’s intellectual property and licensing practice group and serving as a legal extern for the USPTO Southwest Regional Outreach Office in Dallas, Texas. In his last year of law school, Mr. Botani served as a Legislative Aide for the Texas State House of Representatives. He recently graduated from Thurgood Marshall School of Law and looks forward to an outstanding legal career.

2022 Ogechika Oselukwue

Ogechika Oselukwue is the 2022 Honorable Arlander Keys Scholarship recipient. Ms. Oselukwue earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and Strategic Media from Middle Tennessee State University and her Master of Arts degree in Leadership and Public Service from Lipscomb University before attending Howard University School of Law. While in law school, she served as the secretary of the inaugural Technology, Media, & Telecommunications Association, a legal trademark intern for a boutique law firm, a committee member on the Sports & Entertainment Law Student Association’s Center Court Conference, and a research assistant for the Howard Law Intellectual Property Trademark Clinic in partnership with the USPTO. Ms. Oselukwue is a first-generation Nigerian-American with a dedicated interest in trademark and copyright law. She is committed to spreading awareness and diversity of the “soft” IP areas among people of color.

2021 Joanne Louis

Joanne Louis is the 2021 Hon. Arlander Keys Scholarship recipient. Ms. Louis earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship from Babson College. She also earned a Master’s in Communications from Georgetown University before attending Howard University School of Law. Prior to starting law school, Joanne worked in the finance industry as an analyst at Bloomberg L.P. and UBS Asset Management. At Howard Law, Ms. Louis is a Senior Editor of the flagship publication, Howard Law Journal. She also interned in the legal department of Ebay.

2020 Khala James

Khala James is the 2020 Hon. Arlander Keys Scholarship recipient. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Howard University in 2018 and graduated magna cum laude from Howard University School of Law in 2021. While in law school, Khala served as a Henry Ramsey Dean’s Fellow and a Senior Notes and Comments Editor of the Howard Law Journal. Following a legal internship at Uber that sparked her interest in patent law, Khala excelled in her intellectual property courses, earning CALI Awards in Current Topics in Patent Law and Introduction to Intellectual Property. She was also awarded an Intellectual Property Achievement Scholarship from Microsoft. After graduating from law school, Khala clerked for Judge Carl E. Stewart on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. She is currently an associate in the San Francisco office of Covington & Burling.
